How can I use properties to find out what this unknown is?

BIG IDEA
Properties of matter

FOCUS QUESTION
How can I use properties to find out what this unknown is?

PREDICTION/ HYPOTHESIS
If we add water a change will happen.
If we add water it will dissolve.
We can use our senses to learn about the properties of unknowns.

PLANNING
First, we put each unknown on the black paper and made observations in our chart.
Next, we put a small spoonful in the COMPARE circle and a spoonful of each unknown in a circle.
Then, we put 6 drops of water

CLAIMS AND EVIDENCE
We said we would see some changes and we did. We thought water would make the unknowns dissolve and it did for some unknowns, others got clumpy or sticky. We did use our senses to learn about how the unkowns felt, smelled, looked and it's texture.

CONCLUSION/REFLECTION
The water did change the unknowns, but in different ways. The water showed us some property differences of the unknowns.

QUESTIONS
Will it change over time if we let it sit here?
